FDJ (Desert Psychlist)
Eight miles and still rising, looking down I can now barely see the socks that this awesome album of psychedelic experimentation and acid grooviness blew me out of earlier.
Warning to those that follow me on BC, this is a little different from my usual fare!!!
Weird, wonderful and totally out there!
Favorite track: Cosmo DNA.
On a lonely planet called Earth, the civilization of humans is in decline, close to extinction as the planet's atmosphere withers and becomes inhospitable for life, due to over-industrialization, climate change, pollution, plague, and nuclear wars. The remaining populations have retreated into highly technological subterranean metropolises in order to escape the cosmic radiation that now rains down upon the Earth.
When a small asteroid strikes the planet surface, scientists find a mysterious oozing mineral glowing amongst the debris, and soon discover it's miraculous properties might enable them to replenish the dying atmosphere, and heal the effects of radiation that have ravaged the flora and fauna of the world. Just as the experiment proves wildly successful, the supply left by the asteroid dwindles.
Astronomers spend years scanning the cosmos to find the origin of the precious substance, when finally one scientist discovers its signature in a neighboring galaxy many light years away. All the nations of the world combine efforts, and hatch a plan to send the scientist and her partner, a veteran astronaut, across space in a vessel designed to retrieve a large amount of the mineral... and return in time to rescue the Earth from its impending doom.
A few years into the voyage, the rigors of space travel begin to take a toll on the travelers, and the scientist suffers a mental break. As they arrive at the system of their destination, she sabotages the starship and crashes it on the surface of an enormous asteroid within a belt that orbits a distant black hole.
Now stranded, they begin exploring the asteroid's surface in search of survival resources... only to discover that the asteroid contains a motherlode of the precious mineral which they had traveled so far to find. The realization that they found it, but are unable to bring it back and save Earth proves to be too much for the scientist to handle, and while the astronaut sleeps, she wanders from the shelter of the shipwrecked craft and floats into space..to her frozen death.
Now hopeless and alone, the astronaut attempts to survive and to repair the ship's broken transmitter so that he might send word of the mission's failure home. One night, the scientist appears in his dream and shows him how to get back to their home galaxy where he might be detected by the Earth, and tell them where they've found the mineral in abundance: find a way to enter the black hole.
As insane as it sounds, the astronaut embarks on a plan to turn the spacecraft's fusion engine into a nuclear bomb, plant it on the far side of the asteroid, and detonate it.. propelling it toward the center of the black hole. After months of preparation, he triggers the explosion and the giant rock accelerates into the pit of darkness..
When the astronaut regains consciousness, he hears chatter coming from the radio.. it's the people of Earth. Somehow, the plan has worked, and he has been delivered to the center of his own solar system. He finds that he is unable to communicate with the Earth, but he can hear them in a panic, discussing the object that has suddenly appeared in the sky. It's trajectory is aimed directly at the planet. Within a matter of hours, he is careening past the Earth's moon, looking straight down upon his home. He rides the miracle asteroid all the way down as it smashes into the doomed planet.
